Why did the Founders fear Democracy, and consider a limited Monarchy in preference to democracy?

Because a democratic majority could vote to take away any right from the people they wanted. They viewed that as extremely dangerous for the stability of the nation. Wisely the decided on a Constitutional republic that guaranteed individuals protected rights.
