Get someone else in to replace the fan unit and get your parents to take out a maintenance contract for long term cover.These days in the UK gas boilers are cled as white goods like washing machines etc,10-15 years is a good lifespan for a boiler.Most manufacturers stop making replacement parts after 20 years,so if it lasts that long you've done well.
